A welcome Haven #accessallareas

Welcome again to the #accessallareas  blog, where I venture somewhere new with my Guide Dog Bertie. For those new to this particular blog, let me explain why I’m doing this. Guide Dogs UK are running a great campaign called #accessallareas at the present, which highlights businesses and services that are refusing visually impaired people that happen to be accompanied by their guide dogs. This is, of course, breaking the law and Guide Dogs want people to be more aware of people’s rights who choose to use an animal as their mobility aid. As part of the campaign, I wanted to call out the great experiences from seven different businesses that I have never visited with Bertie or even my previous guide dog before to gage their reaction of my dog. This past Sunday, my friend and I were out on a very long walk and of course, Bertie came along for the walk. We grabbed some lunch, half way around at The Olive and Pickle which is just opposite Hollinworth Lake.  The staff did not bat an eyelid when we showed up with Bertie. What was even nicer, there were other dogs sitting outside with their owners so dogs are clearly welcome, despite their position.  The waitress pointed out a quiet corner where Bertie could relax under the table. Although they did not offer water, which is not essential as I tend to carry my own wherever possible, but is sometimes a nice gesture… They were welcoming and left Bertie alone throughout the whole stay. Again, another great example of how businesses should be around Guide Dogs. Well done, Olive and Pickle… And their food was amazing to. Until next time…
