Applying From the School

Both of my rides were really enjoyable today. I won’t bore you with the specifics, it was sunny and I got to wear my new gloves on the first ride then ended up stripping out of my winter coat and just riding in my hoodie. But the rides themselves were very much enjoyable and uneventful.

The things I were concentrating on were rising trot and using light leg aids as I rode both Topaz and Shadow which I could get away with using a lighter leg with.

The rising trots apparently looked really good. It wasn’t as easy to adjust to the small rise on Topaz as he has such a predominant bounce to his trot but even on him I was getting there. My canter on him apparently looked very neat and my usual Hacking RI was taking a different ride so the girl taking our ride gave me some good visual feedback.

My rising trots on Shadow were easier to adjust to. I did feel I was achieving more control over the speed of the trot. I just need to work on doing it a little faster as Bella would probably slow to a walk if you don’t get the speed just right.

I thoroughly enjoyed both my rides today. Both horses were gentlemen and the canters were pretty good. My canter on the back lane with Shadow was really nice.

Anyway, looks like my application from skills learnt in the school are transferring nicely to hacking so far.

  1. It’s amazing how your focus has changed now you have more to learn in the school. It’s going to do wonders for your riding I’m sure. Now hacking isn’t the most important part of your week you’ll be so much more relaxed I think you’re going to improve and learn much faster than you expect! Go for it – and roll on Thursday ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I’m glad applying your schooling is going well, and that you had two such different horses to make side-by-side comparisons on. It makes for a great guage of progress, as you get to see how much skill is independent of what horse you’re on. Long may it continue ๐Ÿ™‚
